Eight years after plans for redeveloping a section of 38th and Steinway streets in Astoria into a mixed-use complex surfaced, the time has finally come for prospective renters to jump on the NYC lottery train. An affordable housing lottery for the Steinway Estates is open now through May 23.
Steinway Estates will feature 83 newly constructed housing units with varying maximum income levels required to qualify. A dozen studio apartments are up for grabs for anyone lucky enough to win the lottery. Rents will be $895 a month for individuals making between $32,023 and $48,350 annually. Others will fetch $1,476 a month for anyone earning between $51,943 and $78,650.
Meanwhile, 1-bedroom units will rent for between $1,135 or $1,861 a month with the salary ranges between $40,286-$48,350 and $65,178-$78,650, respectively; 2-bedrooms will run between $1,375 and $2,246 a month, while 3-bedroom units will be available for $1,581 or $2,586. The income maximum for a 6-person household will top off at $130,260 a year.
