About
11 East 73rd Street, the Pulitzer Mansion, is one of New York’s most glorious Gilded Age palaces. The gifted architect Stanford White created this extraordinary tribute to Venetian baroque architecture in 1903 for the publishing genius Joseph Pulitzer, who owned, among other businesses, the largest circulation newspaper in the world. After Pulitzer’s death in 1911 the building lay scarcely used until the Pulitzer family, in the 1930’s, with notable sensitivity, divided the building into luxury apartments.
