About

The buildings were constructed in 1885 by one of the city’s most prominent developers, David H. King Jr.

When King acquired the West 83d Street property, the block was largely vacant and other West Side blocks were beginning to fill up with rowhouses for the prosperous. He had first retained Stanford White in 1880 to add a dining room to Kingscote, his Bellevue Avenue house in Newport, R.I., and he retained White’s firm again on the West 83d Street project.
