About
Designed in 1889 by famed architect, George Keister, (who designed Apollo Theater and Bronx Opera House, among others), the boutique walkup brownstone was inspired by Italian and French Renaissance palaces and is notable for its rich, Baroque sculptural decoration. The facade’s elaborate pilasters adorned with classical swags of fruit cascade down from sculpted female faces, giving the building a regal character. Flanking the stairs leading to the entrance, are two crouching black stone lion statues believed to bring protection and good fortune, a trend in Victorian-era homes.
