About

Built in 1830, these two Federal-style houses stand four stories high and have already been partially connected. The property was originally owned by James McAllis, a grocer, who purchased the neighboring land in 1827, extending from the present 323 W. 4th St. around the corner through W. 12th St. The fourth story features large studio windows extending the full width of the façade. American abstract painter, Ralston Crawford, is said to have once taken residence at No. 277.
