About

3 East 78th street, designed by Charles Pierrepont Henry Gilbert (1861-1952), was erected circa 1899 for Edmund C. Converse during the same period that Gilbert designed the nearby Isaac Fletcher House at East 79 Street and Fifth Avenue, now the Ukrainian Institute. Gilbert was also the architect for the Felix Warburg Mansion, now the Jewish Museum, and the Otto Kahn palazzo, now the Convent of the Sacred Heart.
