Situated in one of Manhattan’s most prestigious addresses, this Gilded Age neo-Grec style house was built in 1891 by Robert B. Lynd, and subsequently altered by William Strom in 1905. It has now been completely re-imagined as three unique condominium residences by CetraRuddy. A prominent mansion built in 1891, 39 East 72nd street is the former home of heiress, artist and fashion designer Gloria Vanderbilt. When envisioning the revival and the transformation of the property in 2018, the developers and architects had one simple goal: to create the perfect paradigm of Upper East Side modern luxury, while solidifying the legacy of the property. Sourcing materials from around the world, the recreation of this distinguished building was rooted in the historic context of the neighborhood. The sandstone clad facade and cooper cornice stand out, yet blend harmoniously with the surrounding architecture, and firmly establish the building as a modern landmark. Still, the legacy of the property’s past can be felt throughout the residences.
