About

77 Bedford Street

Built in 1799, before most of the Village streets had been laid out, The Isaacs-Hendricks House is the oldest house in Greenwich Village.

Originally a free standing Federal style farmhouse with yard. Large sections, including the brick facing, were added in 1836. In 1928 the roof was raised and a third floor added to create additional living space.

Wholesale merchant Joshua Isaacs purchased the property in 1794. The second owner, Harmon Hendricks, was a copper merchant considered to be the wealthiest American Jew of early 19th century.
