Superior Ink is a full-service, luxury condominium development in the West Village that consists of 50 apartments (reduced from an original 68, due to combinations) in a 17-story tower facing the Hudson River and additionally seven townhouses on Bethune Street. The project was completed in the Fall of 2009 and is situated on the former site of the Superior Ink factory. The developer was The Related Companies and the interiors were done by Yabu Pushelberg. The architect was the legendary Robert A.M. Stern (who also built 15 Central Park West, the Brompton, and the Chatham), and the building is completely green and is LEED certified. Mr. Stern created a feeling of an early 20th century industrial building for the exterior of the tower with light orange brick; a rusticated stone base; and several over-sized arched windows – which blends in perfectly with the history of the neighborhood and has a timeless design. The townhouses are all independent of each other and they each have a brick and masonry façade with stoops and casement windows which were inspired by the pre-war townhouses of the West Village. The townhouses – which vary in width and size – feature gardens (and most have roof decks as well); elevators; and direct access to the building, garage, and amenity floor. The tower consists of 50 apartments which vary in size from a 943 square foot open loft to a 6,321 square foot penthouse – with six apartments having private outdoor space. Ceiling heights range from 10 to 12-feet and the flooring is a morado wood 3” herringbone in all apartments. Kitchens were delivered with bleached wenge cabintry; white quartzite counters; blue-vein cipolino marble backsplashes; and appliances by Sub-Zero and Viking. Features such as a Miele washer/dryer and a 4-pipe ducted fan-coil system for individual heating or cooling capabilities, 365 days per year are standard. All tower and townhouse residents enjoy access to the building’s five star amenities such as a 24-hour doorman and concierge; gym; yoga room; screening room; resident’s lounge with catering kitchen; children’s play room; and a garage with direct elevator access. The building also has bicycle storage and storage rooms and is perfectly located in the heart of the West Village – just across the street from the Hudson River Park and just steps away from the High Line and the Meatpacking District.
