Alan Berger received his real estate license in the late 1980s and joined the Corcoran Group in 1992, when the company comprised only 120 people. As Corcoran has grown, so has Alan's business, resulting in his being an ongoing member of the Multi-Million Dollar Circle. In 2005 he was named a member of the Presidents Council, an honor awarded to the top 25 brokers.
He has sold hundreds of millions of dollars of New York real estate, but whether selling a one-bedroom apartment or a six-story townhouse, he always keeps it personal. "Because home is very important to me," he says, "I don't think of myself as selling real estate but rather matching people with homes. I work diligently to find the perfect fit." For most people, their home is their largest asset and often their most personal possession. And Alan feels it's a tremendous honor to be asked by a seller to represent their property. One of his greatest abilities is to effectively market homes, tailoring each to today's market, buyer base, and competition in order to garner the highest price.
Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Alan moved to New York in 1982 and has called the Upper Westside his home since 1983. A large portion of his business has been on the Upper Westside, with a focus on Riverside Drive. Early in his career, Alan researched, wrote, and distributed the innovative Riverside Drive Market Availability Report, and as a result did so much business Barbara Corcoran christened him the "King of Riverside Drive." In 1994, he sold his first townhouse, which opened doors to yet another facet of New York living. His fascination led to his second specialty, which culminated in his becoming the townhouse director of Corcoran's West Side office.
Although Alan enjoys his business and the people he meets, he also finds it important to have interests outside of real estate. In his free time, he partakes of all the wonderful opportunities New York has to offer. He also enjoys traveling, anything cultural—especially art—horseback riding occasionally, and, hopefully, tennis, which he's now learning. One of his greatest pleasures is cooking with friends and sitting down to a fine dinner together, either in the city or at his weekend home in Roxbury, CT.
