Django Gilligan

Ask top producing real estate agent Django Gilligan what he likes most about real estate in New York and he’ll say: “It doesn’t involve sitting in a cubicle all day.” Every morning Django rides his bike to work and waves hello to half a dozen people along his route. He notes, “The secret to real estate in New York is to know the inventory, look for new listings everyday, talk to people and learn something from everyone you meet.” 

Django grew up in Montclair, NJ, and attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, before moving to Hawaii to follow his heart. “I saw everyone around me jumping into corporate jobs and I couldn’t fathom that path at the time. I had a one way plane ticket to anywhere in the Unites States, and I decided Alaska was too cold.” Django spent the next three years in Honolulu, Hawaii; hiking, diving and learning to surf, but he says, “I finally caught island fever and I wanted to find a place where I would be challenged.” 

He moved back to New York to study acting, something he’d been involved in during college, but he could not find a place to live. “That was my first experience with trying to find an apartment in New York, and it was not easy.” he says. Finally finding an apartment in the West Village, the seed had been planted for a career in real estate. Understanding the difficulties of searching for his own apartment, he is able to empathize with his clients when helping them find the perfect New York space. Whether it’s rentals or sales, Django listens to his clients, hears what their needs are, and translates that into something tangible
