Fumiko Akiyama

About Fumiko Originally from Setagaya, Tokyo, Fumiko has lived in Park Slope for more than 20 years and loves everything about it – her neighbors, the sense of community and its beautiful homes. She couldn’t imagine raising her daughter anywhere else. When she was in the restaurant business, Fumiko learned that dedication to the customer is first and foremost. No doubt she will bring her strong sense of dedication to buyers and sellers. Formerly a sake and Japanese food specialist, Fumiko says, “In Japan there are three necessities in life – food, clothing and shelter.” She has already explored the first two. She owned her first restaurant, Sakura Café in Park Slope from 2005 to 2008. In 2008, she opened a Sake bar that featured home style Japanese cooking called, Kappa Sake House, also in Park Slope, which received a favorable review in the New York Times. Before food, Fumiko worked in the fashion and jewelry business and studied jewelry design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. “Since I covered two of the three necessities – food and fashion, it was time for me to move on to shelter.”
