Designed by Schwartz & Gross, this Central Park West cooperative apartment building was completed in 1930. In his book New York streetscapes, Tales of Significant Buildings and Landmarks, Christopher Gray devotes a whole chapter to this building which he says was the first full blown Art deco building on the thoroughfare.

George S. Chappell, the New Yorker’s Architecture critic, praised the use of color, saying the total effect is exhilarating. Shaded in tones from red at the base to pale tan at the top, forty different hues of earth colors were established to create the illusion the sun was always shining on the building.

This Central Park West beauty was listed in the national Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Atop one of the city’s authentic Art Deco gems sits this magnificent Penthouse Duplex. This is a legendary and true New York Penthouse, a set for famous movies, and once owned by a famous Broadway composer, as well as one of America’s leading Fashion Designers. Currently the space of approximately 5000 square feet is gutted, architect ready, with approved plans. The lower level features soaring ceilings, dramatic huge picture windows with glorious Central Park Views as well as unobstructed City views in all directions. The light is splendid. There are two Wood Burning fireplaces on this level.

The upper level features a Tower Room with double height ceilings as well as a Wood burning Fireplace. This glorious room adjoins a glass enclosed Garden Room which leads to a spectacular South East corner terrace. The terrace is particularly large and perfect for entertaining in style. It has the most beautiful views New York has to offer with endless views of city Landmarks and of course Central Park.
