- Description **
The Jacksonia is a collection of 6 boutique condominiums in the heart of Williamsburg. This unit is a one-bedroom second-floor walkup. Upon entry, you are greeted by soaring 10+ ft ceilings, and floor to ceiling windows that let ample sunlight into the large living room. French doors open onto a juliet balcony – ideal for letting in fresh air. Hardwood Brazilian teak floors run through the whole apartment.
The open-plan kitchen features a wrap-around breakfast bar that can comfortably seat 3. Kitchen appliances include a gas stove and oven, ultra-silent bosch dishwasher, and beautiful cherry cabinets. The kitchen pantry is fitted floor to ceiling with WallControl panels, so you can completely customize the shelving.
At the start of the hallway is a 6ft deep x 8ft wide alcove that can easily serve as a workspace or nursery. The bathroom is towards the end of the hallway, and features soft-close sliding tub doors. Across from the bathroom, a utility closet contains the washer/dryer, water heater, and central air HVAC system.
The king-sized bedroom has easily enough closet space for two people, and an alcove that can fit a wide dresser and TV. The bedroom also receives ample sunlight, and is outfitted with blackout cellular shades.
Finally, the cherry on the cake: the whole apartment is run by an open source smart home software called HomeAssistant. You can control the motorized shades in the bedroom and living room, all of the lights in the apartment, and the central air Nest thermostat by app (and optionally by voice, via Google Home or Amazon Alexa). The motorized shades are connected directly to power, so they don’t require annoying battery replacement. The smart lights are controlled by Inovelli switches (not smart bulbs), which means the physical switch is always in sync with the app.
- Furnishing **
I’m charging a premium of $300/month for the furnishings. How did I arrive at this number? The furnishings for this apartment ran me roughly $29K. Applying a standard 7 year straightline depreciation, that comes to $345/month, and I’m rounding down to $300.
