Conceived by renowned Manhattan architect Fred Zonsius of FZAD and executed by PCCM, this approximately 2,000-square-foot duplex was rebuilt from the studs between 2019 and 2022. New plumbing, electrical, central HVAC, premium millwork, bespoke lighting, and museum-quality finishes come together inside one of Park Avenue’s most distinguished landmark residences.
The main level unfolds into an extraordinary great room where the kitchen, dining, and living spaces blend effortlessly beneath soaring proportions, anchored by a gas fireplace and wrapped in rich custom finishes. Every element was selected, not simply installed.
The chef’s kitchen is sculpted from striking Calacatta Veneto marble and appointed with a curated collection of professional-grade appliances including Sub-Zero refrigeration, a Wolf range and oven, Miele dishwasher, Viking microwave and vent, Frigidaire wine refrigerator, and integrated Sonos audio throughout the principal entertaining spaces.
Throughout the home, natural materials create warmth and permanence. Eight-inch-wide long leaf pine flooring was painstakingly milled from the property’s original 125-year-old structural floor joists; preserving the home’s history while giving it entirely new life. Long leaf pine flooring, custom red oak fluted walls, long leaf pine staircases, and handcrafted millwork establish a level of finish rarely found, regardless of price.
The private primary suite is designed as a boutique hotel retreat. A dramatic fireplace, expansive custom dressing room, and spa-quality bath featuring a freestanding soaking tub within a luxurious wet room create an atmosphere of quiet indulgence. Italian marble, California Faucets fixtures, Baldwin hardware, custom silk window treatments, and tailored Shade Store shades continue the home’s consistent design language.
A second fireplace enriches the primary suite, while each additional bedroom offers generous proportions, custom storage, and beautifully appointed en-suite baths.
Outside, an intimate landscaped patio provides a rare private escape on Park Avenue. Originally commissioned in 1892 as the private mansion of James H. Robb and designed by Stanford White of McKim, Mead & White, The Robb House remains one of Murray Hill’s architectural treasures before its later conversion into an exclusive cooperative. Residence 1B respectfully honors that legacy while delivering an entirely contemporary living experience.
