Once I heard they'd sold, I figured this was inevitable. I've never been positively impresses with Zillow so it's only to be expected that Zillow would drag StreetEasy down to their level.
This "new look" is completely ridiculous but after spending a few minutes trying to search, it also appears to be unusable. Like Kharby, this may be 'Goodbye'.
It sucks. It's a travesty. Just like the new IOS7 on my iPhone.
I concur -- this site is illegible! Previously you were able to see all of the information for a building in a clear and concise way; currently the layout is confusing and requires too many click throughs. PLEASE OH PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK! What was once my favorite real estate resource may soon be discarded.
Strongly agree- TERRIBLE!
they should give people the option to revert back to classic
Agreed. Classic is better.
They need to bring back the link to Google maps in each listing's map.
This change is terrible... Now, its just another dull, lifeless, unusable site.
I agree with somen00bie, they should give us the option, classic was definitely better and more useful. If it stays this way I won't be able to use it for work and I will have to find a new site
One more vote for the "classic" option.
What's wrong with it?
Awful.
It's terrible!!!
I keep getting a server error. Why did they have to change it? Site is useless to me now.
omg... new streeteasy webpage is horrible! the information that use to fit on one screen now takes a few screens. who ever designed the new site has no clue what is important to its users!! gimme the old streeteasy back!!!!
The old site was perfect. Please let us have the option to switch back.
All building information used to be on a single easy to read page and are now separated into 4 different tabs. All building sales and rentals are lumped together in the building activity tab with no clear way to separate them. It's no longer clear what link to click on to get to an actual listing, usually leading me to jump around a few pages. I can no longer print a floor plan from the listing?? I have to copy paste and print it in MS paint?? Dates are no longer in numerical format???? This is the biggest wtf. Are they to change prices to 'one million four hundred and fifteen thousand'? The map search is barely functional compared to the old one. I can no longer sort by sales price or sales dated. And a minor note, the new font and color scheme seem make the page bland and difficult to catch what you are looking for. It's clear that the new interface was not designed for or by real estate professionals, they wanted to make it pretty.
Agreed-- the fonts are stupidly large, not enough info is easily visible anymore. Too many clicks to find data. What's supposed to be better about this? I guess it's a little prettier, but vastly less usable.
stooooooopid !!!!
the great thing about the old format is how it packed a huge amount of info into one page. You would visit Sales for examples and see different sections with new listings, closed sales, etc. The new format shows almost nothing on one page making it inefficient and tedious to use.
by the way, i assume Zillow bought the site in order to 'take out the competition' rather than to build on its strengths so it does not surprise me that things are changing for the worse..shame
Completely agree. The consolidated presentation was easier and much more efficient to use. We need readily available and accurate information not "pretty". Bring back the data dense format please.
The new design seems to cater to iPad users.
I agree. I hate the ad on the right side it blocks half the map. Also, whatever happened to giving a list of all properties on the map screen.... it's disappeared! Ugh, well, at least is now make it harder for the competition to look for a home :).
STREETEASY : please could you give us back the old site. This site is not user-friendly, and it is time-wasting!
I'll tell you what happened. The new delusional CEO trying to justify his job is messing with a good thing. Look buddy stop trying to do things just stick with what worked best for you...throwing people under the bus to get where you are.
I agree with alanhart.
One more vote against the new site. Please bring back the old. This is a monumental waste of time with an absurd amount of bank space.
There's a trend among website designers for more "air" and space on the page.
That's what happened here, only in extremis. It's actually boring to look at now.
And I miss the "recent price changes" link, both for Manhattan and Bklyn. That gave a good snapshot of the market.
I might pull my insider sub. Why would they change the design at all? It was actually one of the better info-websites around. I used to point people to it as a good example of seeing lots of data points at a single glance.
Sad.
I couldn't believe what I saw when I stopped in today. This is going to severely limit my participation going forward...very poorly done.
It wasn't broke, didn't need fixing.
I shudder every time I hear the word "upgrade".
If streeteasy wanted to make a change (aka upgrade) they could have added an edit button in the comment section. That's probably the only thing that could have been done.
The new version is useless. StreetEasy has been ruined.
Please bring back the old street easy!!!
This happens quite frequently when companies are bought.
The fact is Streeteasy was different because the manner and wealth of information really benefited the buyer, where every other site is pedestrian and generally are more benfit to the seller.
Some time ago I made corrections to my apt on Zillow and pointed out mistakes in other properties for them to correct.
Bad mistakes, like an apartment in Queens being used as a comp in Chelsea, etc.
No responses, no changes, no nothing.
Quite frankly I always thought a brokerage would buy SE to "get rid" of a tool that was costing brokerage houses a lot of money, and make it go away.
It looks like Zillow will do it for them.
Hey better for me in the end, my next transaction will be as seller instead of buyer anyway.
Craigslist seems to be the only website that "gets it."
RIP streeteasy, thanks all to the great (and even horrid) posters.. was nice knowing ya :(
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ changes everything - cyndi lauper
sad... where will I complain about brokers, contractors, lawyers and all middlemen now?
Worst part is you cant see open houses from the property list unless you open up the actual listing page.
It's true that the old Streeteasy was the only "neutral" source on real estate. Everything else tilted toward sellers.
This redo has a softer, "seller" type of look.
I agree! The new site doesn't work. If you want to check a specific address, the line provided for it at the bottom of the page doesn't work. If you click on one listing and then want to go back to the full list, you are taken back to the very beginning of the list, not where you left off. That forces you to wade through the entire list all over again. Sorry but the new site has been very poorly thought out and implemented.
new design is horrible. Zillow ruined it
Linking to the other forum that has similar although more detailed feedback in case the SE overlords are checking in.
http://streeteasy.com/nyc/talk/discussion/36631-who-moved-my-cheese
Terrible. Sad. I can't even find a building I'm looking for. 20,000 listings come up when I enter a specific address. No more insider for me...
Can we get a collective "If it aint broke DON'T fix it"? Zillow...repeat this three or four times and return us our old website.
Just because you acquired Streeteasy doesn't mean you have to Zillowize it. Streeteasy wasn't broken...so there was no need to fix it.
WTF? Put your panties on. hire a programmer. $10K later.. you got streeteasy 2.0
I can see why so many people think it's ok to sofa surf to make a living. STFU or make a difference.. like CARL ICHAN. He ain't wishing apple does a mgmt buyout... he's punching tim cook in the face every three weeks.
For Meh, loves the obtusfication of NYC RE prices, comps and square footage... it'll help when w67 sells his condos for $3K sq ft based on 50% shrinkage... carry on.
GO TEAM RE. Good bless to team SE who basically earned what w67 did on one stock in 12 months... good on YOU.
Hit the $100K lotto jack pot !!!!! Facebook dork hits $500MM power ball. w81 mom makes $5MM sofa sitting. Ali wastes her Harvard degree.
But to each their own... GO TEAM RE!!!!
Awful. Less information on one screen and more clicks to find it. Please bring back the old site.
The new site is almost a useless tool-it's so frustrating negotiating the site and everything takes more clicks than necessary-this used to be my favorite site to search for real estate now it's almost a useless tool.
Bad upgrade...
will miss old site, hope to get it back
NYgal: You put the address in the wrong box, I did the same thing the first time.
go back to the old site please
1. Zillow should have rolled out its new site on Halloween
2. that way we could have all hoped it would quickly vaporize
3. as usership of this site soon will if the old format isnt restored soon
They took away THE most useful toll of all, the stats above the results related to your search. It use to take me 10 seconds to explain to my clients why something costs what it costs. Now, FUGADABOUTIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND THE SIZE OF THE TYPE! I've spoken to a few legally blind people who agreed it's a bit too large.
Talk about taking 10 steps back...why in the world would you change something if it's not broken? Zillow just flushed $100M down the drain with this purchase if they don't change back to it's original format.
SOOO much wasted space. It seems I have to scroll for an eternity, but I don't even know which direction to scroll...
I do not like the new sight at all - I have been a member since its inception - Very disappointed.
Dreadful! It was much better before...
They've totally effed it up. It's like some crappy auto blogger site that the less reputable brokers use when posting on the list of craig. Just reverse it streeteasy folks, there's no shame in admitting you messed up, and we'll forgive you, and forget you ever did it.
This is the end or...... just switch it back??
For starters...
Cannot separate sales from rentals.
Cannot click on address from anywhere to go back to main page of that address.
Cannot see current listings on the same page as historical listings.
No Citibike or flood zone data (Equinox I don't miss) on maps. Now I have to waste time going to citibikenyc.com and floodsmart.gov website. I guess SE is trying to save money by reducing the amount of data it has to analyze.
If SE did a website usability study the result would be SE classic ==> The old site was better and more user friendly!
a 'classic' version would be great but I'm fine with figuring the new one out if somebody wouldn't mind pointing out where the price per square foot has gone? thanks
how many times do I have to scroll....
It seems like the feelings here are unanimous.
But, is there anything we can DO???
How do I find other listings nearby? Was simple on old site.
Where is Cory Booker when you need him?
Diapers anyone?"
Zillow: Pease give us the option to use the old format! This one is unruly and time-consuming to use. Really awful.
I think Zillow underestimates the sophistication of the NYC buyer.
The risks of alienating your user base seems very high with this type of drastic site redesign (ie Digg). I work on Wall Street and this type of move by a public company seems very poorly thought out.
Streeteasy was the best site by far and catered to a very distinct, sophisticated market. I might start using Streeteasy going forward if the data it provides is worthwhile. But to my eye, it looks like a watered down version - I can't find the data I'm looking for like prior psf data and prior listing info, etc. It's like the person who designed this site has zero idea of how real estate in NYC is different than in Topeka.
I really don't like the new site and will look for something better going forward.
I'm really considering canceling my paid membership it now takes too long to find any information before the pages was filled with all the info you need now you have to keep going to other pages or go down to the end of the page 2 minutes later UGH
New Coke.
The new content is still bad even though you did not post my previous contact. I am NOT new to Street Easy so I find this whole comment process as flawed as the new site design. Thanks for taking down the useful tools that the original site provided. Badly done...
HATE IT- difficult to navigate, landing page not intuitive- classic case of a brand innovating without securing loyal user feedback up-front. Feeling less inclined to log-on.
+1 for reverting to the old design. The new site is horrible and unusable.
I agree with kylewest.
Kick this off-shored, thoughtless, web-designer-in-training trash to the NYC curb, and bring back what your users prefer (objectively, I might add). You clowns just went from first to worst. What a bozo move, Zillow.
bring back the old site, please.
not user friendly at all!!!
Agree with all above. Plus... has anyone gone to the open house planner? You now must open EACH listing to see the date and time. You can't just scroll through the list. This site is just too much work. I re-thinkng why I am paying for this. IT STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with all - the new site is not good.
The old site was much better.
Looks like someone is trying to vandalise Streeteasy. Perhaps that is why it has been taken over - was it a threat to other sites?
I hate it!
Paraphrasing what another poster said, "This is the first time in SE's history that all the posts have the same opinion. "
That's saying a lot.
OMG. The people behind the blasted "open kitchen" are now redoing the Streeteasy website!
hate it change it back.
now listings by location is no longer a viable feature, hand-in-hand with the property info.
It is terrible. Hopefully they come to their senses and change it back. Otherwise it is time to switch to a new website.
t e r r i b l e !!!!
b r i n g t h e o l d streeteasy b a c k!
street-easy became street-struggle
And they are posting 1 out of every 10 comments. I'm checking in, and know of people who posted, and those comments are nowhere to be found. Lamest attempt to damage control EVER.
Its a joke. You can't even differentiate between coop, condo, townhouse, etc in the recorded sales search.
There has to be a strategic collusion between the brokerages and SE because nobody can be this stupid about who the consumer of the original SE was.
I am a subscribed user and I don't like this new design. Now I want to unsubscribe it!
The new StreetEasy is a troll. Grey it out.
Bring baby back!
The beauty of streeteasy is it's simplicity. Now they made like all these other awful sites. What a shame.
please bring back the old site!!
the best way to complain about the new format is to send feedback, then stop visiting the site altogether. only lower traffic will convince them that the site sucks.
i think that they are looking at the metrics and think that the site has exploded in terms of new users with the new look as the amount of clicks to get anywhere has increased 10 fold.
Using this for now: http://www.nytimes.com/pages/realestate/index.html
Streeteasy was so user friendly....now it looks overcomplicated!
