Discussion about
Where should I move? UES or UWS? Want to be by CP. Getting bored with UES. Like the action on Bway. Good sunsets on the Hudson. Any opinions? Thanks.
sounds like you already decided.
No, haven't decided. Dat's why I'm askin. Got alot of UWSiders here, hoping to hear from them.
Maybe I should re-phrase: What is the downside of living on the UWS?
By the way: Do you live in Columbia County or NYC? Just curious.
dank.
both
only downside of UWS is if you have an office east of madison...other than that, like it a lot better than UES.
Dwell: I moved back to the West Side after years in Lenox Hill. Can't say I miss very much about the UES, except maybe the view of Central Park West. The West Side has always been home for me anyway. The East Side was just where I slept.
There are tradeoffs in convenience, obviously:
Museum Mile and the Central Park Zoo vs. Broadway, Lincoln Center, AMNH and the Children's Museum;
Quicker trips to baseball games vs. quicker trips to football, basketball and hockey games;
Easier getaways to Long Island vs. easier getaways to almost anyplace else.
Ready access to great hospitals vs. well, Roosevelt is OK.
I do miss the eight-minute cab ride to LaGuardia (at dawn, before traffic hits) from the Upper East Side. I don't miss the #6 train.
Thank you, thank you, thank you W81st!! I was going to direct this specifically to you, but didn't want to put you on the spot!!
I've really come to enjoy my Loehmans-Fairway runs!! Then, I come back east & it's deadsville.
Just wondering that after I move there, will it seem as fun?
What the heck, maybe I'll try it for a year & see if I like it.
Thanks, W81st, you're the best!!
Thanks, Columbia. So, you live in NYC. Good point, but guess I can take a crosstown bus. A bus?? who am I kidding?? TAXI!!!!!!!!!
yep...or 14 different subways!
plus, when you get your place in columbia county, leaving from the west side is infinitely easier than navigating the FDR.
p.s. last drawback -- going to laguardia or kennedy ariport but at the right time of day newark can be a breeze.
dwell, I also started out UWS, did time on UES, then back. West81st and cc are spot-on re: trade-offs. I'd be careful about committing to an east-side commute, though your try-it-out plan makes sense. That daily grind across town and back can take it out of you.
Forgot to say, if near the park on the UWS, you're still onto the Henry Hudson in a few minutes, whereas near the park on the UES puts you much further from the FDR. Each long block seems longer over there, for some reason.
traffic. people going to long island and airports all use the fdr as well as east siders who want to go over GWB and upstate and ct...westsiders generlaly drive across town for long island so west side highway and adjacent streets are less congested. (still no fun on a friday afternoon though.)
LOL, NWT: "did time on UES"
NWT & columbia: I'm a real Nu Yawkuh: I don't drive. Never owned a car. I do have a license, but I'm probly a menace on the roads. Caw Servus!!
Columbia: I don't do the country: no sidewalks!!
