Now THERE'S an apartment that could use a face-lift.

Is $25M too much? 1A, the house's former library, may be coming up soon: http://www.streeteasy.com/nyc/talk/discussion/11009-perils-of-a-small-condo. It's maybe 25x25 on the ground floor, with kitchen and bath down in the cellar.

It's pretty tacky post-Versailles decor.

NWT, did you notice that 1A rented, or at least attempted to do so? Started at $15k, went down to $12k, listed for around a year and then indicates no longer available. over $1000 psf to rent 1100sf. Now that's a bargain.

ar, thanks, I hadn't seen the rental. Always forget that tab is there. It looks as if the bookshelves are still there, but covered over. There're drawings of that room in a Trumbauer book.

It's a house converted to apartments in the 1930s, then went condo in 1986. Twelve units, but several combos, so maybe eight or nine now.

It's not to everyone's taste but it is certainly palatial. It's not for me but I like it & there are some beautiful things there.

Sick? H-O-W sick?

All that from telling jokes?

I spent too much time on my education.

Like the decor or not, wow, what a place!
Wouldn't have imagined Joan with such classic 'grandma' taste.

The decorating suits the apartment. I imagine her LA digs as more Malibu-ish.

It looks like Fragonard vomited all over it. Great floorplan, though, and you can't get prime-er than that block! Doesn't Barbara Walters live in that building, too?

Did anyone else see what raving lunatic bitches Joan and Melissa were on the Celeb Apprentice? I bet she's selling because she's so humiliated and knows that shit flies better in LA then NYC! I started out loving Joan - she was my favorite to win and she pretty much single-handedly mastered every task herself. But by the middle of the season, was so disgusted by both her and her daughter.

I love Joan - she is brilliant. She insured that she would make it through the final round. Plus, she's very charitable.

Joan is brilliant - and she would have made it to the final anyway. She's also stark raving mad. And her daughter has zero redeeming qualities.

Did you even watch the show?

I didn't like Annie all that much either, but it felt very rigged. Blaine Trump is on the board of God's Love We Deliver and clearly SHE was the winner.

Blaine Trump is getting divorced from Trump's brother, so I doubt he showed allegiance to Joan for any reason. Of course Annie deserved to win, but this is television and the audience prefers Joan. Melissa was pretty tacky, but that's kind of part of the package...

Comedy, yes, for Ms. Rivers but I wonder if the bulk of her money comes from those jewelry sales on QVC - a LOT of money there, I think.

Joan is stubborn. Nearly three months later and no chops.

Rivers was on Howard Stern's radio program this a.m. Listening to her I find it hard to deny that she is (1) still very funny, (2) smart, and (3) an outstanding guest on a talk show. She and Howard were terrific together for about 40 minutes.

She describes her apartment's aesthetic as something out of a Czar's palace and not for everyone. In her defense, much of the place apparently looked this way when she bought it because at least one floor with 26' ceilings (!) was the ballroom of a Drexel mansion. I mean, when you buy a ballroom with all that fancy work on the walls and ceiling, you don't just rip it out. You either love it or buy something else. If you have $25MM to blow on a place to live, then you live in a rarified world that I'd wager no one on here can fathom. It's hard to say that an utterly unique triplex with roof rights wouldn't be a pretty spectacular way to entertain and live. Personally, I'd rather fantasize about this than anything in the Plaza or 15 CPW.

Since it makes no difference to me, I hope she gets a fortune for the place. Why not. She didn't steal her money. She earned it. She invested in this place years ago, and no matter what it sells for, she'll win. Good for her.

In one of her books she said that she saw the place from a space across the way, was intrigued & purchased it. As I recall it needed a lot of work. She has always lived very well. In the same book, she was talking about her place in Bel Air (with Edgar when Melissa was small) when she was just getting started & how much all that cost & how they barely made the expenses each month.

I hope Joan gets top $ for her apartment. She absolutely brought it home during her roast, and she is edgier and funnier than ever in her live act. Yes, she embraces tackiness and rips certain celebrities to shreds, but a) they generally deserve it and b) she makes fun of herself just as much. Besides being charitable, she is known for being gracious to fans as well as wait staff at restaurants, a true hallmark of class. There's also many more outlandish apartments...
