Ask the super for names of shareholders who have recently done similar work. He'll likely only point you in the direction of people whose renovations went well from the building's perspective. People who have renovated tend to love to talk about their reno and would likely be happy to share opinions with you.

I would never just contact an architect or designer cold based on a recommendation from an anonymous forum. For all you know the contractor is recommending himself to you on here.

I'd also be very wary of questions posted by people who have no other posts on here or responses from posters who have no other posts. All would smell fishy.

agree 100% w/ kylewest. for every rec, search for other posts by the poster. use the ones you've seen a lot of as *leads* and follow up.
