Discussion about
Can someone tell me why there are so many empty apartments in Williamsburg? Are there no takers? Is it a good idea to buy there at this time?

Very simple. The apartments are overpriced. Apartments have gotten so expensive here that most people can't afford them. The only people who can afford these apartments make tons of money and would rather live in a different (I don't want to say better but I think you all know what I mean) neighborhood. So you get all these really nice apartments that people want but can't afford. A single person or a couple who makes 150K a year (which would make you very well to do in most area of the country) can't afford to buy an apartment.

who would want to spend that money and be sick all the time, the has one of the highes asma rates in newyork and the countrie, not to mention the 17 million gallon oil spill creeping into the basements in greenpoint and williamsburg, and the heavily polluting industries that left there marks in the soil. where are they going to build the NYU dorms on some toxic lot?
GOOGLE it TOXIC BROOKLYN, it's mind boggling...
