Ray, necesitas mejorar tu ingles. lo mas practico es aumentar la cantidad de horas que estas expuesto al idioma. usa close caption (CC) cuando miras TV, escucha cuanto mas radio en ingles puedas (93.9 fm). las bibliotecas publicas dan cursos gratis.

It is a pejorative term, usually. My Spanish is pretty up to date, at least according to my MA in it from Columbia, and all the money I make translating it into English.

It is used as a pejorative only in Spain (rarely any more) and it refers to somebody that has an easy life, like a trust fund young man, which doesn't seem the case of our hopeful contractor.

Actually, alanhart, "Columbia" is a university; "Colombia" is a country. I've been to both, but only have a degree from one.

"Señorito" means "little man" everywhere, usually (not always) derogatorily, despite meem's plaintive cries otherwise.

Actually, Columbia is at its essence the poetic female human embodiment of the New World as a concept ... a bizarre proposition in my opinion, especially given that she (presumably) draws her name from the man named Christoffa Corombo.

Actually, AH, it is "Colombo" in Italian, and it means "dove." It is "Colón" in Spanish, which has no other meaning (other than a currency), but "colono" is a "settler," as in "colony." So his name has a deeper meaning than would otherwise appear.
