Discussion about
I took a break from looking at BH this late spring/summer and returned to find everything that's still on the market, is still priced the same. Very few reductions (not that many sale either). Things that have been on the market for 6 months. I'm looking at larger, 3-br places. I need to get my family settled. Are prices that firm in the area still? Should I hope for 10% under asking and move on with my life -- or will the bottom fall out soon enough and I should hold off. Really confused. Thanks

People in Brooklyn Heights generally are better situated to weather this downturn.

If you're expecting a miracle, don't hold your breath. If you can't afford the neighborhood today, move on.

Didn't they say the exact thing about "prime" manhattan, too?

Current listings need to re-set to the new comps (and appear to be gradually capitulating). Here's one recent comp that I think helps to illustrate the trajectory: http://www.streeteasy.com/nyc/sale/252439-coop-200-hicks-street-brooklyn-heights-brooklyn

I recently bought in BK Heights after a year of looking and waiting for the big drop that is yet to come, eventually was able to get just over 10% off asking price (note: it was a 2bdrm, not 3). Couldn't be happier in the new hood. Our time horizon, however, at the low end, is 5 years so we were not too worried about waiting for a further drop. You may be in a completely different situation.
