I'm no fan of TWC, but they've made all of the 20 or so appointments I've had over the years, and usually on time.

it's a quirk. Time Warner is usually very reliable. Just resign yourself to the fact you're going to have to blow the whole day waiting for them to arrive at some point during the 8-hour window.

There should have been an insert in your last bill that listed the channel changes including cnn that occured maybe last night.
go to twcnyc.com for the new line up. Cnn went from 10 to 78 in Manhattan.

I agree that this is a quirk.

I have had to deal with Verizon recently and they were as bad for service visits and subsequent issues as they always have been. I have had nothing but pain from them for voice, dsl and FiOS over the years.

None to speak of from twc.

Thanks. Probably was noted somewhere in the bill -never really look, just pay.

I was thinking of going w/ Verizon. I guess they're all pretty much the same.

"Probably was noted somewhere in the bill -never really look, just pay."

There was an insert in the most recent bill.

Of course, for those of you who've resorted to this "paperless billing" silliness, I can see how you overlooked this.

FIOS is much better than Time Warner. Their cable gives you more features. There is this little widget for instance that appears on your tv when you press a certain button and it tells you the traffic and weather reports. I did not have this with TWC.

TW is hateful as a company. But the workmen who show up are almost universally very nice and personable. They try really hard and I've dealt with them a lot in 4 apartments over the past 2.5 years.

Who HATES the new interface? Who finds the DVR functions are all BUGGY!

Well, we were sad when TW's new interface was rolled out. I really particularly hate how you can't go to the Guide and hit "fav" and jump through to see what programming is on your fav's next without checking out each channel individually. Plus, it was a handy way to see what else was on the nearby channels that weren't set as fav.

Whatever the company, they always leave a mess! I am always stunned that workers don't thoroughly clean up after themselves. I find those stupid little nubs of cable wire hiding under things for weeks. Aggravating.

True story.

When I moved from Brooklyn Heights to Manhattan and had my cable installed in the new apartment, my cable television worked for only one day (strangely, the Road Runner cable worked just fine). I would call TW, and they would send a "stronger signal" (weird, since I thought either the cable was on or it was off, not variable like a stream of water), and then the TV signal would come back on (but strangely, the status menu bar wouldn't work. But then after a day or so, the TV signal would disappear altogether.

They finally sent a cable guy over to check out the problem. He was on his phone with the cable company, and they tried several remedies, none of which worked. Finally, the cable guy asked me how old my cable box was. I told him it was only five years old. He shrugged his shoulders and said "Well, these things sometimes just go bad. I'll get you a new one from the truck." As he was disconnecting the unit, he said "Oh wait! Here's your problem! There's a red label on the bottom!" So what, I asked. It's been there the whole time. He asked me if I "imported" the unit from Brooklyn. I said well, yes -- I DID manage to slip it past Customs at the base of the Brooklyn Bridge. Again, what difference would that make? He said that BROOKLYN cable boxes don't work in Manhattan. However, Manhattan boxes work in Brooklyn.

!!!

It's all the same company!!!!

"sluggish like a freaking 486"

Ah. Remember when we were so impressed with those computers, after upgrading from our even more sluggish 386s -- or worse, 286s??

Let's start a thread on new interface. I'm curious what issues others out there are having.

"Who HATES the new interface? Who finds the DVR functions are all BUGGY!"

Moi.

1. Recorded shows list does not stay on the show you just finished with (or just above if you delete it) - just goes right back to the top - huge pain when you are 95% full spread across 120GB internal and 500GB external drives.
2. Skip forwards 15 mins with every press of right arrow when in fast forward mode - gone. Actually that is a bigger pain.
3. Sometimes the list of recorded shows does not show up at all.
4. Incredibly slow scrolling sometimes - about 5 second delay - I had to reboot once to fix this
5. Reboot capability from the front panel has now gone - now need to pull the plug
6. No indication that you have actually started a recording when you manually hit record

Good things:
1. Sort recorded shows by title - but you still lose your place each time
2. Time remaining
3. This upgrade enabled 700 to show HD on demand

loving the TW rants today - not that TW would give a rats ass but much like the brokers who read and post - wld it not be refreshing to have TW do the same. And yes, the Gateway 486 was like a Bentley, at that moment in time - both long gone to fossilland.

Does Time Warner have a monopoly in their designated areas of Manhattan? My building isn’t wired for Verizon FIOS but isn’t there any other choice? The Road Runner internet service is horrible.
