Just out of curiosity how much is the average cost for an inspection for a condo unit in a manhattan 1 bedroom. Also for New Construction Developments do people generally do an inspection. Granted that the place should be new and probably nothing much to look at does it make sense tha anyone should actually bring in an inspector to check the place out for other than sanity check?
$600 - $1,000.
And yes, an inspector should look at new builds as well as old. If you're willing to pay $400K, or $500K, or way more for a one bedroom, you're foolish not to invest the $750 +/- for an inspection. And follow the inspector around - you'll learn a great deal about your building in particular, and things to know about/look for in general.
I would never think of buying a single family home without an inspection so I guess, yes, it's probably a good idea for an inspection on an expensive NYC property, too. Yes, accompany the inspector & carry a flashlight & a legal pad & pen, too, for notes. You're paying for it, don't miss a thing!
