Corcoran = Shark, sometimes incompetent shark
Elliman = Ignorant Shark
Sotherby's = Shark in a suit
CitiHabitat = a large fish wishing to be a shark and telling everyone that he is a shark

Is it just me, or is almost everyone at the big brokerages a "vice president"?

The question has the word shark in it. The question should subsitute broker with the word shark to yeild unbiased comments. Why is he a shark? Is being a shark good or bad in this case? Unless you are willing to tell your story you should refrain from descriptives that may paint a person as negative. There is nothing wrong with being a broker. Most that I've met socially I have liked. I think the problem is that most buyers are super duper newbies with high emotions trying to make a business/life choice and that has a tendency to bring out the worst in people.
Here's some fatherly advice...
Do it ytourself. Do your homework, search the net, go to multiple open houses, ask questions and if possible, make use of the buyers broker. The second you ask them to be your broker also the tables change that second. NO COMMISION SPLIT. You just turned that person into your advocate. No one will push for you harded. Why haggle through 2 people when one will do. When you trust others to do your thinking be prepared to pay the price. When I logged on to this site I was a newbie, today I consider myself knowledgable well informed and a my side (SE posters) are a group of folks that I know long enough to utilize their advice.
Do it yourself...you will never be sorry.

Ceecee, why do you ask, are you buying or listing through him? As falcogold1 said, a shark can be good or bad, it depends on which side of the table you are on.

Ive dealt with a lot of brokers in the city, not directly with him but know of Larry; shark is a good word to describe him but again, it may not necessarily be a bad thing.

I seem to remember a Dept of State requirement something along the lines of "every broker working for another broker (i.e. Associate Broker) must be an officer of the company.

Larry Schier, is a true get it done broker. He is very dedicated to his clients, sellers and buyers alike. He is very knowledgeable about all real estate laws. I was very impressed by his ethics and his overall knowledge of the upper west side. THANKS AGAIN LARRY!

Betsy
