Why Do People Spend Time on SE AllDay Long Bragging About How RIch They Are?

Discussion about
Lately it seems that people spend tons of time here on SE bragging about how much money they have. Seriously, if anyone here was nearly as rich as they claimed to be, they would not be bragging about in on a forum. The more someone brags about their wealth, the poorer they likely are. Let's face it, 99% of the "rich" people on SE are liars. Do multi millionaires spend their entire day on forums debating rent vs. buy? I think not... This is an anonymous forum, so there is no need to lie to impress people. Just be honest. Nobody is going to look down on you. This is not elementary school where you have to be the "cool" kid...

Well, as an extraordinarily rich person, I can say that SE is great. Oh, sure, I could be out on the yacht -- but, really, yachts are for people far poorer than me. You have to hang out with servants and boat drivers (I refuse to call them "captains")...ugh. Far better to hang out here with the millionaire's club.

Perhaps one day I'll prove my wealth by showing you pictures of my spare apartment at 15 CPW -- I'm really just using it for storage right now, but some of the peasantry might nonetheless be impressed.

(I'm just kidding -- I'm New York Poor (aka middle class).)

Actually, it does seem like elementary school, and you are the kid who always gets picked on. I pose the same question to you- Mr. President, why do you spend time on SE all day long?

r u picking one me? LMAO... maybe instead of playing WOW like some of my trust fund friends I'd rather banter and scream about RE... LMAO. Ever hear of multitasking?

I remember one rich guy spent 500 hrs picking out furniture and colors w/ his new trophy wife.... now that's a f'n waste of time... oh I knew a briliant kid from Bronx Science... ended up a rental broker for Citi_habitats.... - shrug - I guess "waste" is a personal term....

my oh my. actually alpie doesn't remember malraux, that's clear. and others. a couple of years ago all you could read was how you were a total loser if you didn't make over $750k a year. and how much money everyone had, even the irish carpenters, so weren't you silly with your upper-middle-class salaries and your dreams of a dining area. and you might as well commit seppuku if you weren't upper middle class. just end it now, or move to Newark, where you so obviously belonged.

I miss Malraux! His postings about holdings at 15 CPW, his fine art collection and auctions... If only he'd check in...

That said, as sledgehammer asks, what is rich? I'd never call myself that, but I have friends I'd say it about and surely I have other friends who might say I am. On here, I think it would be boring if all anyone ever discussed were studios. I'm glad there are people who can ostensibly afford classic 6's and 8s or townhouses.

In the mid-80s, I was in a Gansevoort-vicinity deli in the middle of the night, and heard a tranny hooker order: "*I* want AMERICAN cheese on WHITE bread", with each word said as if she were ordering beluga caviar and the foinest freeyunch sheyumpain, and wanted to be sure they'd get the specifics of the order quite right.

Aren't you asking like $600k? I could buy that multiple times in cash you silly bitch. You are the VILLAGE IDIOT of Streeteasy. How many people have to tell you that you're a dope before you slink away, back to NJ? No one here compliments you. You have a half dozen people who routinely call you stupid. There are another half dozen who cheer the people who do.

here. and it's a coming-of-age story as well.

My name Princess Edna from Moscow. I've come of age and wish to start new life in New York and live pretty life like the Sex and the City.

Budget not in my vocabulary, Here in Russia, I have pink Bentley, pink fur and use papa's plane to fashion show with Donatella and pretty male model in Milan.

In order to please family, I want to keep below 30 Million USD but have big closet for fur, jewelry, Louboutin shoe and space in garage for Rolls Royce and Lamborghini car and fast access to the private airport I used in the New Jersey for flight out of country.

I stay at Ritz Carlton Hotel Midtown and I love area but I am young and fabulous and like the SoHo and Village better. Where is best building in SoHo and Village with celebrity?

I figure the more they talk about their $$$, the poorer they are.

Though, perftiz we know for sure, because he's been caught in multiple inconsitencies.

My bet is, he lives in Brighton Beach with his mom in their real estate "investment".

If you're blue, and you don't know where to go to
Why don't you go where fashion sits?
Puttin' on the ritz

Different gowns upon a bevy of high brows from down the levy, all misfits
Puttin' on the ritz

That's where each and every lulu-belle goes
Every Sunday evening with her swell girls
Rubbin' elbows

Come let's mix, where Rockefellers walk with sticks
And umbrellas in their mitts
Puttin' on the ritz

Idiots like W67th, AR, Alanhart, NYCxxx, CC are your typical middle class rich folks wannabe. AR already traded herself out of her home when she sold in 2004. Now she's here full time trying to push prices down.

I didn't realize AR sold in 2004. Good for her. Bubbles are hard to predict, but if you sell when the math says sell, you never get burnt...if you wait till the math says buy again.

CarolSt,

AR, don't have to try and push prices down which she don't, price reductions will take place naturally.

I never realized SE was full of people pretending to be rich did I miss something?

You may have missed Alpo saying I couldn't afford the shithole he can't manage to sell in NJ. That could be contrued as him saying he's better off than I.

Why not?

I am trading in Manhattan apartments - this is a much better way to find out what's really going on than listen to your (beautiful) RE agent.

By the way do you guys think it's time to buy RE in the Financial District?

Yes, you should buy in any emerging neighborhood in the early stages of a protracted downturn. That is a time tested strategy.
