http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/economics/6147211/Barack-Obama-accused-of-making-Depression-mistakes.html
History repeating itself? President Obama has been accused by some economists of making the same mistakes policymakers in the US made in the Great Depression, which followed the Wall Street crash of 1929, pictured Photo: AP
His policies even have the potential to consign the US to a similar fate as Argentina, which suffered a painful and humiliating slide from first to Third World status last century, the paper says.
There are "troubling similarities" between the US President's actions since taking office and those which in the 1930s sent the US and much of the world spiralling into the worst economic collapse in recorded history, says the new pamphlet, published by the Institute of Economic Affairs.
In particular, the authors, economists Charles Rowley of George Mason University and Nathanael Smith of the Locke Institute, claim that the White House's plans to pour hundreds of billions of dollars of cash into the economy will undermine it in the long run. They say that by employing deficit spending and increased state intervention President Obama will ultimately hamper the long-term growth potential of the US economy and may risk delaying full economic recovery by several years.

Riversider cut the crap. I am sick of your anti-Obama posts. You sound intelligent at times, it is incredible that you post this type of BS against someone that took the horrendous task of cleaning the stupid mess Bush left us with. Yes, they prevented the downturn form being a cataclysmic disaster. Yes, it is too soon to tell. Engaging on frivolous destructive indulgent government bashing is very counterproductive for the country. Just quit!

yeah, if an economist says something, it must be true. Because, after all, they are masters of the universe.
How Did Economists Get It So Wrong?
Last year, everything came apart.
Few economists saw our current crisis coming, but this predictive failure was the least of the field’s problems. More important was the profession’s blindness to the very possibility of catastrophic failures in a market economy. During the golden years, financial economists came to believe that markets were inherently stable — indeed, that stocks and other assets were always priced just right. There was nothing in the prevailing models suggesting the possibility of the kind of collapse that happened last year.

....and common sense says Riversider is an idiot.
Cut Riversider him some slack, he must feel depressed living in Manhattan which is pretty much all Democrat so it's only natural he find someplace anonymous like cyberspace where he can "school" us with all his political or links from "economists"
LOL.

Who the heck is Riversider? Why doesn't he post on some Conservative rag blog like World Net Daily? Any minute now I'm expecting him to post a thread about Kenyan birth certificates.

I'm not sure why the pile on here. Why are people threatened by an alternate view? Maybe someday people will look back at "manhattan RE always going up" and "US superpower" as the same kind of ponzi spin.
Will it happen? Who knows. Still, who can say definitively that it can't happen? I just saw my money market return for the month and thought I was in bizarro world (those zero yields are finally catching up to me! gasp - looks like even my consumption is gonna be crimped in order to try and manufacture some tiny increase in wealth this year) This economic unraveling ISN'T close to being over. Times are not normal and I'm not ruling anything out and instead am grateful to hear various viewpoints. Don't have to subscribe to it, but I will listen and consider almost all of it. Sometimes, I think I could have earned a degree from some of the links and references from this board.

Isn't that really the case Lecker? People are threatened by another point of view.
How about mimi says that Obama is cleaning up Bush's mess. There's some strong credibility to that, for a log of messes, but, what about healthcare. This whole healthcare mess right now, I don't think anyone even knows what is trying to be accomplished with certainty, but for sure, it's a new initiative, not anything doing with Bush on that count.

I think there is a time and place for this topic but this isn't the time or place. This is a real estate board and lets keep it there. OBTW, every economist is wrong in their lifetime so why take the word of one when many agree on the progress the WORLD has done to overcome the financial situation.

It's so obvious that Lecker & Lexking are the same person. Look if you're gonna go on to a message board an try & convince people to agree with your point of view at least have the balls to do it yourself--instead of making up imaginary people to 'agree' with.

Healthcare has been a mess since well before Obama got elected. Give the guy some credit for trying to clean it up. It's been a train wreck for decades, and you can hardly hang that around his neck.

more importantly, if the economy goes 'Argentina' on us what will that mean for local RE? Would you want to be holding residential property under those conditions or would you want to be renting with your money in gold or dihydreated food stuffs? Interest rates will clearly be on the rise...18%, 22%, who knows? What will that mean to the price of local RE. Let's all be real, The big 'O' won the booby prize and only history will show if his choices were sound. Safe to say, there is a world of pain ahead. So again, how would the future painted by this artical look for our fair market?

I find riversider to be deeply unpatriotic and un-American in his slurs against the President when the nation is dealing with two wars inherited from the last administration and trying to come out of an inherited recession. Very unpatriotic. Shame. Undermining the country by saying such things about our Commander in Chief.

You know, anyone who raised a voice against the disaster that was the last administration got his/her head taken off as being unpatriotic. Caller after caller on those idiotic radio shows screamed about nation at war etc and how criticism strengthened our enemies and undermined our troops. Funny how those who never tired of telling others to shut up can't stop complaining now and yet see no irony or hipocracy in their tirades against this President. Few Presidents have inherited an America left in such dire condition. Cut the guy a break as he and his team try to figure out how to fix a country and world that took another administration 8 years to break.
