Yeah, yeah, isn't this like trying to beat a dead horse so that people don't panic & thus start spending for the holidays? Until we get some jobs creation, THERE IS NO EFFEN RECOVERY.
With all due respect to a Nobelist (Stiglitz) who’s been on the right side of many of the economic debates of the last few years, I’m surprised that the obvious and simple answer to declining worker incomes in the United States escaped him: We all become banks, borrowing short from the Fed at zero interest, and lending long to the Treasury at 330-370 basis points. The profits from that trade can be invested in the stock market, so that we can all diversify our income streams.
Presto, household balance sheets repaired, and we’re off to the races again.

Not sure why anyone is surprised that Bernanke & Geithner say positive things. CEO's do it all the time. They justify it as necessary to instill confidence in the system. The more informed people out there ignore the Government commercials and look at the data being released, which is not so fudged. And if you listen to our officials long enough you know many of their statements are in conflict with each other.

if you define recession as a decline in real gdp, we may currently be out of such a recession. but that's not saying that much.

The subprime problem is contained: it was eaten by the PRIME problem.
