While a significant portion of listings -- roughly 33 percent, according to Streeteasy.com -- saw price cuts last month, there was an increase in sales and many brokers started elevating asking prices to enhance their units' image, to leave room for haggling or because they thought the market was turning around. Upwards of 850 homes in Manhattan sold in August, according to figures compiled by The Real Deal using Streeteasy.com data, up from approximately 760 deals made a month prior. Almost 5 percent of all Manhattan homes on the market last month, the data shows, saw price increases; those price changes averaged 6.4 percent http://therealdeal.com/newyork/articles/time-to-raise-residential-prices-depends-on-whom-you-ask-neil-binder-diane-levine-manhattan [less]
Good, then inventory will pileup and eventually push prices lower.
> to leave room for haggling
Didn't they try this trick 6 months ago? Lot of help that was.
So, they're raising them so they can lower them. Great sign....
Lets not ignore the rounds of data on discounts from asking...
here's one example. my guess is that they don't need to sell.

ha, when is it
it's pure psychological warfare out there...
warfare would mean the other side has a clue... reminds me of my son and daughter playing hide and seek last weekend (while I was reading the iphone 3 feet away sitting at the dining room table)...
my 5yo daughter.. ."okay let's play hide and seek"
my son (3 yo)... "okay"
Daughter turns around and starts to count....
Son runs under my chair sticks 1/2 his ass out the side and giggles uncontrollably.....
I believe the "sellers" would be like my 3 yo son.... it's only warfare/game if there is even 1% chance of the other side winning....
