who the hell woudl want to buy in Dubai? Jews aren't allowed, the sewage goes onto the beaches, they have debtor's prison, and say goodbye to freedom of speech.

and to think that a year ago many people predicted that Dubai would beat NYC as the financial capital of the world...

Well, somebody paid millions to live in New Jersey.... so, not really that surprising.

Here's an interesting little tidbit.
when the Palm Island was being bilt there was a harsh oder coming from the lagooned water. As the project progressed the smell got worse to the point where it threatened the development.
As it turns out even given the enormous amount of planing no provision was made to circulate the lagoon water with the tidal ocean water. The lagoon water was 'stuck' in the lagoon and it just got super stinky. This was fixed with an enormous pumping and circulation system which placed the project considerably over budget and threatened the profitability of the project. Good thing they had a dictator to the rescue and a army of slave labor or this 'save' would have never been possible.
Don't be so proud of Dubai...It is a harsh place were human rights take a back seat to personal indulgence. A playgroung to the wealthy arab world and a place to hide for corperations looking to avoid taxation in their home country...Little shout out to Haliburton (that cheney sucking no-bid contract getting arab ass licking publicly held cooperation).

Dubai is a shit hole. all hype
