This year we get it on a saturday, AND it will be 70 degrees and sunny. The possibilities are endless. I march in the village parade every year and then go dancing until late, usually with a nice dinner in between. A lot of great parties going on this year. What's on everyone's agenda? Also, if I am not home during the day will it suffice to leave a bowl of candy and a trick or treat sign outside my door, in case of trick or treaters in the building? And, any kick-ass costumes planned? Hope everyone has a happy one..

glamma, sounds great! I'm doing as Bob and Walt Tenor (Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear from Stuck on You, my favorite "dumb" movie of all time) with the lady friend. Should be fun!

uwsmom - Following a devastating trick-or-treat tour through our building last year (board forgot to put up signup sheet & everyone bailed), we have scored an invitation to Lincoln Towers, rumored to be one of the best treat factories on the UWS.

Glamma - i think it's very nice of you to leave treats out for treaters. But if your bldg hasn't organized anything formally, be prepared to down that candy after your late night of partying ;)

brick - sounds like fun!

This Halloween is going to be a disaster. There are 4 days I detest: St Patrick's Day, July 4th, Halloween and New Years Eve. Being on a beautiful SATURDAY afternoon, tomorrow will be like St Patrick's day with people starting drinking at noon. In addition, all sorts of folks who normally wouldn't drive into Manhattan for the parade (since they either would come straight from work in Manhattan or wouldn't come to the parade because they couldn't leave work at 5/6PM, go home, change and get in on time) will be here en masse.

In addition, every party promoter is throwing an event. I mean EVERY party promoter: one's who usually throw events once a month to those who do 3 a week.

On another note, why is it that every female under 35 uses Halloween as an excuse to dress slutty? 95% of women's costumes seem to be "slutty nurse", "slutty witch", "slutty schoolgirl"........

As much as I love the GV Halloween Parade, I can't stand how it's become such a mob scene, so I'll be trekking up to Connecticut for a party this year.

One of the most enjoyable Halloweens I've ever spent in New York was when I decided to stay home and pass out candy to the Trick or Treaters in front of my Brooklyn Heights brownstone. I bought 50 full-sized candy bars (not those crappy "fun-sized" ones -- there's nothing "fun" about a bite-sized piece of candy!), arranged them in a huge basket, set up a nice pumpkin and candle display on my front stoop, and sat outside to greet the kids. It was so much fun seeing the kids, seeing how excited they got over the candy, and kibitzing with the neighbors.

I guess I'm getting old!

Cobble Hill park has the kiddie parade... it might be the cutest thing I've ever seen.
