We lease a townhouse in Harlem and just learned yesterday that our garden floor is riddled with mold (it is behind wallpaper so we didn't realize it until a contractor came to do a relatively minor repair job). The good news is that as renters, it's not on our dime to remediate. But what is this likely to mean in terms of time, etc.? Will we have to get out of the house for a while? The affected area includes the kitchen so I would imagine we would be unable to use the kitchen for a while during the remediation? The contractor said that the issue is that this area which is the only sheetrocked part of the house (everything else is plaster) was very shoddily finished. The sheetrock is just up against bare rock wall with no framing or sealant. According to him, they will have to rip out the walls, properly seal and frame, and reinstall the walls, wallpaper and wainscoting. One of our children is asthmatic, and I am concerned about her exposure while work is going on. UGHHHHHH! [less]
