Discussion about
Anyone been? Anywhere near as nice as Tribeca? Don't really feel like travelling all the way up (or down to Tribeca), but also don't want to deal with the traffic at Columbus Circle

there's also chelsea. the selection isn't as good as union square, my other option, but the produce section is lovely, and it isn't nearly as crowded as columbus circle.

Love Whole Foods...there's another location at 95 E. Houston Street and Bowery...it's huge with nice restaurants upstairs!

the one at houston is much less crowded than the others. although far fewer checkout people offsets the advantage a bit.

have been there many times -- it is on par with the one at columbus circle
weekends are crowded other times not so much
why dont you walk over there and decide for yourself?

Love, love, love it! Though if it weren't literally a five-minute walk from my apartment, I'd be too lazy to go there.

rlmnyc, where would you go instead? my five-minute options are gristedes and associated, and i'll walk the 15-20 minutes for TJs and whole foods gladly rather than be hostage to those horrors (although our gristedes is much better than most).

aboutready, chances are you're less lazy than me, so if I were you I'd suck it up on a nice day and go to WF. I don't do the bulk of my grocery shopping there--I visit mainly for prepared foods or if I'm looking for something unusual--but it's such an indulgent experience with no equal in the neighborhood. I took my in-laws there for lunch a couple of days ago, and my mother-in-law exclaimed upon entering, "Welcome to the Promised Land!" You don't get that kind of comment at the Associated, but that's where I do go most of the time.

i actually go grocery shopping almost every day, usually TJs, but once a week or so whole foods, as they have things i can't get elsewhere. i try for whole foods on fridays, when the US greenmarket is alive. i confess that i also frequent my local fruit vendor cart, who has very high-quality produce at great prices. and we have a wonderful fishmonger locally. compared to the days of key foods and red apple i feel truly blessed.

ar, I'm impressed by your versatility. My kitchen doesn't see much cooking, so I'm not out grocery shopping more than once a week. Every once and again, my husband and I feel the urge for fresh fruits and veggies, so we'll go to the green market, too, but that's more the exception than the rule.
