Rock as floor in shower

Discussion about
We placed black rock in our shower stall with gray grouting. We envisioned the rocks and grout would give us a dark, sleek, clean look. However, it did not come out as expected. The contractor is telling us the discoloring is from soap residue, however, it was discolored before we ever showered. Anyone have any similar experiences or can provide opinions to rectify would be appreciated. Thanks......

Don't know what kind of rock you have, i did a shower in black slate and when i sealed with a higher gloss sealer the appearance improved.
