Does anybody knows what the red shaded area close to fifth ave on UES on the streeteasy (google) map means? Any help is appreciated. Thx

I mean the uneven area from 78 to 86st between fifth and madison.

It's an extra layer of approval for construction that affects what is visible from the street. From an individual owner's perspective, the impact is mostly positive. No-one can build a high-sliver building on the footprint of a townhouse, or replace period windows with white vinyl crapola.

of course, it can also increase maintenance costs substantially. matching the period windows can be more expensive (and they might be less efficient).
