Although i give credit to whoever calls out the bad guys, I think it's just counterproductive to make being a landlord more intimidating, especially in such tough economic times!

The article rings true. I currently live in a Vantage building in Washington Heights, and I've met several neighbors who have had problems with Vantage because they are not treated respectfully if they are only paying $400/month for a 2 Bedroom. Apparently Vantage tries to act like they are giving them a good deal by offering them $10,000 and helping them relocate. After finding a new, more expensive apartment, that $10,000 will be gone in less than a year.

Plus, Vantage sucks. Maintenance knocks on my door without prior notice, I open the door, the guy doesn't speak a word of English, proceeds to walk into my apartment, open my window, climb out onto the fire escape, climb down one floor to my neighbor's apartment, pick objects up off of their fire escape and throw them onto the side walk, breaking several dishes, throwing a basketball into oncoming Broadway traffic, and scaring all of the passersby.

Ridiculous. Don't rent from Vantage.

oh I forgot to mention that I closed the window, locked it, and left the building in a hurry to get to class. the next day, i walk into the elevator on my way home, and i'm on an important business call. the maintenance guy starts to yell at me in spanish and i had to give him the finger and tell him to shut up so I could hear my call.

fayek!! they're assholes!! they should be stopped!! immediately!! illegal and awful harrassment!!

but don't make being a landlord more onerous when they've just bought up huge amounts of apartments with the sole intention of harrassing to create vacancy.

this makes tishman look like angels.

I also live in the Heights and have never heard a single good word from tenants about Vantage. And I'm not talking about old-timers who pay nothing. Even newbies paying jacked-up rents hate Vantage.

People constantly sell drugs on my front doorstep and I call "vantage security " to get them to do something and I get an answering machine or someone who speaks no English at all.

If Vantage is acting against the law they definitely should be held responsible.
