could be wrong but i thought you had to be a member of an affiliated group to join a credit union like past and present ibm employees.

They've loosened restrictions so that your affiliation need only be live or work in the same city, county, etc., or be a relative of a current member.

'affiliation need only be live or work in the same city, county, etc.' thanks alanhart i wasn't aware of it being this loose. i thought the banks had sucessfully lobbied to keep it somewhat tighter.

I'm also interested in seeking out a good credit union, as I cannot borrow from Fannie right now due to self-employed status. Any suggestions?

Try Municipal Credit Union, www.nymcu.org.

If you belong to any entertainment union (SAG, AFTRA, WGA, DGA, IBEW, IATSE, Actors Equity, etc.) you can get into Actors Federal Credit Union.
