Discussion about
Does anyone have scoop on new restaurants and retail in Central Harlem? So many of those new developments have space for ground floor tenants.

there is a rumor that the owner of PM bought space for a french bistro but no solid evidence yet. lots of harlem blogs have speculation on various things, including a W hotel and a Macys.

And (speculation) Crate & Barrel or their mini-me brand CB2.

Wine bar on 8th near 120th that's associated with the wine/liquor shop Harlem Vintage, also at those coordinates.

Also, construction has begun at the East River Plaza on 116-119th St (east side of Harlem). Target and Home Depot have signed leases. To be completed in 2008. http://www.eastriverplaza.com/html/news/news.html

Central Harlem - I think the Harlem Tea Room is relatively new and looks trendy.

If you walk around Harlem, you see how poverty stricken it is there. I doubt any major/trendy stores would go there unless they cater to that demographic.

#4 and #6, i do walk around harlem -- every day -- as i live there. it is a beautiful area. please do us a favor and go away, this board was a request for info on new development, not a forum for more of your hate.

Thankyou #9 There are some great places to eat up there if you look for them. Roti Plus on 8th between 125+126th, Juice Bar on 125th between 5th and Lenox, etc. The Harlem Tea Room has been there for years. Please support these great locally owned establishments and go downtown for the chains. Not sure why issues such as poverty and crime are in here...it's everywhere in nyc just open your eyes.

Starbucks at Douglass Avenue and 118th (the retail floor of the SoHa 118 condo) when SoHa 118 finally opens -- likely March 2008.

The retail space at The Langston (www.thelangston.com) has Starbucks, New York Sports Club and a Bank Of America. Things are changing and the building is beautiful.

HI,

I have discoverd a ton of restaurants up here in Harlem. Its just a matter of time before more retailers realize the potential up here and also how much less retail space is for now. Our bldg. THE LENOX is getting a VERY high end auto dealership. Everyday we see something new up here. Also on newnewyorker.com u can find lots of stuff

Just had excellent Indian take-out from Polash, on 3rd Ave and 118th. Really wide delivery radius, too! Had been searching for Indian food for a while up here. Anyone else have good delivery recommendations? I'm hoping for Thai, next.

we are on 123rd and lenox, so a bit west of you. if you log into the yahoo group "harlem homes" you'll find a list of delivery, take-out, etc in the neighborhood. menupages also has a good list.

part of the reason i am considering moving to harlem is my friend lives there and loves the ethnic foods and east harlem vibe -- but she is spanish so maybe that helps? she likes ricardo's steak house, i haven't been yet but she loves it. i'll let you know if i go!

Good restaurants in East Harlem include Iztocan (highly rated in Zagat) and Creole Supper Club. They are both good for dinner. These would be more in the midpriced range, but there are also plenty of more modest Mexican, Puerto Rican and Carribean spots with great food. Chinese restaurants are mostly the cheap takeout variety.
