Discussion about
coregroupnyc.com Can anyone tell me anything about this real-estate company?
They get kicked out of every project they entertain
They have gay ex-porn stars as "star brokers" (no joke.)
I looked at 52 e 4th, one of their more successful properties. I worked with John Gomes there. He is now known for his work on Selling New York. Very prof, very knowledgeable. John was great and he works with freddy Ecklund who is also great. Over all the other core members i have met seem to be glorified showers and not deal makers. They are marketers and focus on new construction boutique style buildings. Currently David Roger Grossman is the agent in the building that i live in, 56 e 13th st. He is awful and his team is awful as well. They run terrible open houses and David is a borderline dishonest broker. He has to be somewhat dishonest to try and sell the units at 56 e 13th. They are garbage and he was terrible to deal with when i was trying to buy (i rent there while my proper condo, from prudential whiz DENIRO is being finished). Core is sprinkled with the good, the bad, and the brilliant. However they are novelty and amateurish with the selling new york BS. People want privacy when buying. Thats why people dont show up for tours on the show.
Jason- Drop some names. They dont care they are all wanna be celebs anyway.
A little Googling got me Fredrik Eklund as the former gay porn star turned Managing Director at Core.
Aside from how they deal with open houses/being fame whores, what would you say about buying a property listed by Core? Should one be wary when dealing with them?
swtshot- where are you looking? They throw a lot of flash at you and a lot of fancy listing info. I got a listing report from them that consisted only of units that were at the top of my budget or beyond and all being either ph units or dogline units in nearly sold out developments. They basically ignored my request and sent me whatever they wanted.
Too funny to hear Eklund was the "star"
i worked with gomes and ecklund. very professional.
hgtv thinks they're great, that's all you should need to know
Here's the Streeteasy thread on Core:

Schedule some gym time after you meet with their brokers--you'll need a shower and won't want to get all the slick oil your scrub off in your home tub.
If you are a luxury developer or luxury property owner, you want to work with people who understand the language. If you aren't a luxury buyer, you probably won't like either their properties or them.
They just showed this property on Selling New York. They actually showed buyers at the table signing and purchasing the unit. However, it was never sold.
The entire show is a farse.

i feel like the real issue is they have no clue how to price for the current market. their listings are so out of whack with where sales are happening.
Being on HDTV has everything to do with having a good face and voice for TV and nothing to do with ability. I know two guys who were NOT professional carpenters, architects, or construction workers, but rather male models who nonethless got hired to be on their home remodeling show. According to them, they ONLY interviewed extremely attractive male models and actors for such roles (as long as they had minimum carpentry skills.)
When they envisioned the show Jim Jones (whe apparently works for Core), the #1 thing they wanted was attractive, TV ready "characters" the audience "would like." A large percentage of Core's brokers are TV-ready. That does not make them the BEST brokers anymore than being a CNBC or Fox Business News money honey makes you the best or brightest when it comes to finance.
jason- I got that sense as well when i was looking at their agents profiles on their website. a fairly good looking group but that doesn't make for a very credible real estate company.
I think they over price the properties to win business from other brokers. Also, in my experience, some of the brokers I (tried) to work with have attitude which only worked in 2007.
Best bathrooms and kitchens in the business as long as you don't mind grossly over paying for appliances and toilets. They know when you shop, your an amateur, they know your broker doesn't really give a rats ass so they appeal to you with amenities all the bells and whistles. An investment in these superficial amenities is what makes the sale.
Total Genius.
