Discussion about
I purchased a co-op back in September and I'm now putting together my taxes. The homebuyer's tax credit requires a settlement form. Since I didn't use a mortgage my lawyer says I never received a HUD-1. What would a non-mortgage settlement form look like? My lawyer is generally unhelpful so I seek SE's collective wisdom. Thanks.
I don't see why the closer wouldn't still have used a HUD-1 (it's not required in case of non-mortgage transactions, but really, it's there, why make up a whole new form?). I also don't see why your atty doesn't think it's part of his/her job to get you a closing statement tied up with ribbons and bows.
However, since you appear to be stuck where you are, I'd call the title company and ask them how the settlement was done and if you can get a copy of it.
