SE: Clearly this is stalking. It has been going on for a very long time. It damages the credibility of this site, it gives me pause about visiting or posting on this site because this same poster has threatened me when I complained. I think you should seriously consider the financial and legal implications of allowing this poster to continue under any name. God forbid that this poster take any action outside of a cyber environment but if it happened, exactly how many posts do you think there are on this site that might establish that this person is deranged and you have done nothing about it.

apt23, you can simply "report abuse" to comments that you consider abusive.

dc2172, SE is between a rock and hard place with this, but the "report abuse" feature would require 24/7 staffing to effectively remove the posts in a timely manner. Barring that, the "broken window" phenomenon is operative ... except in this case it's clearly not random individuals who would further vandalize the property, but one person who commits criminal trespass and destruction of private property repeatedly.

I fully agree with apt23 here, and I can't help but think there is a legal remedy akin to Notice Prohibiting Entry, resulting in criminal trespass charges, if the real person behind these usernames ever posts here again.

The discussion boards are not a direct part of SE's revenue-generating business model, but they support it indirectly by boosting brand image, so that higher-qualified users will click through to apartment ads, listings, whatever ... or those same highly-qualified buyers/renters/sellers can be so turned off by the discussions that they go elsewhere for their shopping and clicking.

Nice theory. Always love non-lawyers who use big words like they know what they are talking about.

Same would apply though to columbiacounty who is on default ignore but keeps showing up.

Fine, call me a non-lawyer, but once you're done with that terrible name-calling you'll realize that a notice of the sort I described doesn't have to correspond to who's greyed out in a physical location, so it needn't correspond to that on a discussion board.

And let me take this opportunity to state that I think SE should remove columbiacounty's grey status -- default ignore is not justified in his case; he's a perfect gentleman in his posts.
