Surrender Agreement

I'm at the end of my current lease (market rate) and my landlord is asking me to sign a "surrender agreement" before vacating my apartment. Is this customary at the end of the lease term? I have never had to sign one before, and I just assumed that when the lease is up, you just move on. By the way, my unit used to be rent stabilized and is now supposedly market rate (I have been paying market rate for the past three years). Thanks.
