Currently looking to procur attorney for closing, anyone know any reasonable and good attorneys? What is average cost for attorney fees?
Probably at least $2000 if you intend to rely upon t he attorney to do all or most of your due diligence, e.g., plan review, financials review. Also, contracts are not as simple as they may appear to laymen. Every contract has to be specifically tailored to the needs of the parties and their fore-
seeable risks, e.g., not getting financing. Doing so takes thought and time. They also have to be negotiated with adverse parties, who frequently will not consent to every contract rider that a
diligent buyer's attorney will want to include.
Cost is hha functuin of time and complexity and foreseeable problems. Your best bet is to locate a
competent and experienced real estate attorney and let him/her do what it necessary to properly protect
you, even if doing so costs you a few thousand dollars extra.
My impression is that the typical range is $1,500 - $3,000. My attorney is on the lower end of that scale; I'd be happy to pass her info along. She did my condo close earlier this month and did a great job (she's extremely responsive, which is great when you're stressing about every pitfall that arises). You can ping me at stacy@covehurst.net if you'd like her info.
2,000-3,000 is about right.
thanks for info!
