Discussion about
Is there a version of streeteasy.com, or a similar website for the Wash DC market? I'm moving there in a few months and want to learn about the RE market there. It would be great to find a site that has listings and sales info (if possible). TIA

a move to dc may in our cards as well, so i watch that market. trulia has a nice breakdown of dc hoods which you can select and "watch" ie get email updates when something goes on sale which fits your parameters. however, you already have to know the city well enough to know where you would want to live. i have never come across any discussion boards for re there which would compare to the talk section on se, but trulia does have comps. i'll tell you this much, tons goes on sale in my searches every week and then just sits there. nothing really moves, as far as i can see. you should probably start with your commute, will you be using the metro or driving? if you need a metro, this makes your search easier, because it limits your pool. BUT don't expect to pay much less than you are paying in ny, it's expensive, especially the good parts near a metro.
