Why doesn't broker give out address?

I am sure everyone ponder why brokers never give out address even if the unit is no fee!!! Let me take a step back and tell you guys my background. I am part of the new wave of brokers whom got into the field due to the failure of the financial firms (ex Lehman guy). I actually choose this field as I enjoy working w people vs 3 monitors and enjoy helping people vs pushing spreadsheets and analysis. Hence, I am not the typical brokers whom are known to be pushy and does not listen to their clients. Throw me some questions. Love to give folks an inside view of any rental questions. Upon hearing some interests, I would love to answer that "no address" questions.

i love giving out the address because it's a way of starting the relationship out on trust, but i definitely know lots of landlords, especially in brooklyn where they don't let me give out the address or post it on the internet until I've talked and gotten a sense of the interested party.
If you lived in the building, would you post the address of your apartment on craigslist, etc... out to everyone?

You would be shocked at how many people call clothing company 800 numbers to talk to the models.

Well, there are a number of reasons. The most obvious is that the broker doesn't have an exclusive, that in itself isn't the key reason because many landlords won't deal with people off the street. Most brokerage firms will ask you to full out a questionaire and run a credit report on a client looking for an apartment. This save a great deal of time as many renters don't make the grade- won't be accepted. Rental agents work very hard for their commission. Most renters would beat an agent out of their commission in a New York minute if they could. With the market being what it is, many owners are paying the fee, (OP'S in the indudtry). As to the remarks by agents new to the field and why they came to real estate, I would advice them to take at least one course in business letter writing. There are many idiots in the field, many second rate companies will hire anyone as agents aren't paid a salary and only reeive commission. Of course, if you are a property manager, leasing specialit,listing manager,sales manager, asset manager, you are in a different ball park. The industry needs a union, truly as there is a great deal of abuse.
As to the person, who said they weren't the typical broker, the industry is filled with retirees from all industries. College professors to police officers make excellent salespeople; they have patience and know a great many people. As well as young people who just finished being busboys and waitresses. Have a wonderful day, and buy something- its's a fabulous time to purchase.
My comment was in response to Jimmy hones question which has subsequently been deleted. My apologies. He was asking which word of his post indicated that he was smart. I was quoting him.

This was disappointing. I got called a cocksucker (whatever the explanation or apology, it wasn't necessary to begin with) and additionally never got an answer to this mystery question posed by the new type of non-pushy broker.
