Discussion about
NYmag did a 5,000 person survey, and they seemed to make sure they got a good cross section (even got staten islanders). and, turns out, if money were no object (the proper way to measure best, just as they do in pretty much everywhere else in America).... the neighborhood folks most want to move is... West Village. 31%. Which to me is whopper-high. They didn't list who is next.... but they did say the two biggest neighborhoods for wishing they could move to W village are chelsea and willamsburg.

I'm a little surprised that people chose Soho, with all the crowds and noise. Tribeca, I get, its been sold really well in the past few years (though its still a little dead for my tastes).

Wvillage probably gets high marks from families and singles...

Nabewise.com has a way more in depth system of reviewing neighborhoods. You can make your search personal with over thirty attributes like safety, singles, hipsters, etc. It's not always just about money.

I think soho is more expensive than tribeca, per square foot.
