Discussion about
Since (for a really stupid reason) brokers are unable to say what the decent Brooklyn area schools are, can someone please let me know which (if any) public schools you would send your kids to in Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn Heights, and Boerum Hill?
PS 29 is generally acknowledged as the top choice in Cobble Hill. Check a zoning map for exact blocks though.
ps8, ps29
Ps 29 in Cobble Heights, ps 58 in Carroll Gardens and ps 261 in Boerum hill are great schools. Ps 38 has a classic white/Asian G&T in a largely black school, ps32 some love some try for ps 146 (lottery.)
this site is for school zoning map http://maps.nycboe.net/.
if you want an unbiased opinion of school based on grades, go to http://www.schooldigger.com/go/NY/search.aspx?searchtype=1&zip=11231&within=1
look for schools to be at least 3 to be decent and 4 to be good. PS 29 is the only one i would send my kids to in the area.
What are people's thoughts on PS 8? There seem to be some (relatively) decent deals in BH now -- and nothing is coming on the market in Cobble Hill. I was told in the past that PS 8 is not so good, but attitudes seem to be changing.
schooldigger is lousy unwieldy site---waste of time
I went to PS8 from 1-8 way back when (I don't even know if it goes up that high now). I think this "PS8 is not so good but getting better" comes up every decade or so. I don't think my info would be useful as I went there over 20 years ago. That said - I ended up fairly well adjusted, well educated, went to college, and even law school!
Insideschool.org is a much better site to review NYC public schools.
