Discussion about
We live in the city with 2 small children but hope to join a club with an outside pool some driveable distance outside of the city. We don't golf but wouldn't mind a country club. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Doesn't NY Racquet Club have a westchester locatioon for that?
I also know a few people who have memberships on South Shore of Long Island, 20 miles from midtown... Rockaway Hunting Club, Lawrence Country Club, Woodmere Country Club, etc.
I have to assume there are a bunch more in westchester as well.
Also, if its summers, what about a beach club? Silver Gull in the rockaways... or the Atlantic Beach clubs on LI.
Maybe also consider a "yacht club". With no boat, its basically hanging in marina and often a pool. Maybe some jetski. Not a horrible idea.
Gateway in Brooklyn is one that I know of, but there are tons.
Another shot is, if its just pools and such, what about getting guest memberships to Nassau County stuff. Echo Park is cool, and North Woodmere Park (20 miles from midtown) has pool, tennis, gold, etc. Not sure what the rates are but could be very cost effective.
There is a pool on the north side of the LIE, just 1/4 mile either exit 35 or 36.
If I recall, it's not expensive at all.
Found it, Christopher Morley Park

yeah, nassau county stuff is a good idea.
i wonder if there is an equlivalent thats adults only...
If you don't want Long Island, go north into NJ. Alpine Country Club is 8 miles north of the GW Bridge. Also, there's one in Englewood which is even closer to the GW.
When I was growing up in Long Island, Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, Long Island was just a park. In 1998, they built the Nassau County Aquatic Center at this park which I've heard is a beautiful facility for swimming. I'm not sure about their membership policy.
In Long Beach/Lido Beach, there are several beach clubs, including the Sands Beach Club (where they held my high school prom). Again, I'm not certain of the membership policy.
