Square footage for hardwood floors

Is there a rule of thumb for how much square footage of hardwood floors you should purchase according to the size of your apartment. Apartment is measured at 1,400 square feet. Kitchen will include hardwoods as well.

Possibly you should measure each room that will have the new floors, because the 'measured" size of the whole apartment of course includes walls,closets, etc. as well as bathrooms. Then, depending on the style of flooring you choose (some patterns involve more waste than others), add 10-20% extra
