Discussion about
I'm dating this girl who needs to replace her kitchen cabinetry and possibly her counters. She's a sweetheart and might be able to work this into her lease, as she is very close with her landlord. I'd do it for her myself but Im swamped with work. She wants knew cabinets and the counters are optional. Does anyone do small jobs like this anymore? I would think this could be done in less than a weekend.
Well if she's a sweetheart.....lol...
I had to throw it out there, just being honest.
Phaedrus,
You should like most of my clients, a weekend?
Have the cabinets been delivered? are they custom made? Does the building require that you change the branch lines back to the riser?
Is the countertop made out of stone (thats 1-2 weeks after the install of the cabinets)
I would assume it would take longer then a weekend, does she live in manhattan or somewhere else, in Manhattan buildings usually dont let you work on weekends
And yes, there ar emany of us who will do smaller jobs like a kitchen renovation or a bathroom
The counters are not going to get done, its too expensive, she needs to cover those up or something, the cabinets should be stock, whatever is cheapest, unfinished etc, or she should go with shelves. Branch lines and riser? not sure but I would think that is not necessary. This is a quick removal and then install, gathering the materials will take most time.
The weekend time frame refers to the removal and installation.
Primer she lives on the upper west side. Do you know where she should look for cabinets? is there such a thing as cheap custom cabinets or custom shelves? obviously custom to adequately cover the walls not to effectively provide multiple storage units or decorative value.
There really is no such thing as cheap custom anything, however, if she just goes with shelves, thats doable. being on the upper westside I am sure her building has rules. I would see if you can pay the handyman or super to do the demo and removal. Is she going to leave the bottom cabinets?
As far as the shelves, you can have a lumber yard cut to size and have the super install that too.
Most people dont understand that we, as contractors need to charge a certain amount just to stay in business. Our overhead is very high.
So even with a small project it can be costly.
Ikea
I fully understand.
Respect. I'll tell her to find some shelves.
Soot
I'd like to get to know the LL who would redo a kitchen...sounds like a terrific LL.
Home Depot offers installation

I dont mind ikea at all except the person installing does have to assemble it. So the cabinets are less expensive the labor is a little more
Ikea for the cabinets and the super to install.
